AshCycle pilots in Denmark
Transforming ash into opportunity: advancing circular construction for a sustainable Europe

URBAN TREE containing sewage sludge ashes now enlightens a central square in Kolding
Pilot product: URBAN TREE
Location: Kolding
Technology: Blended cement-based concrete
Ash type: Sewage sludge ashes (SSA)
Ash replacement level: Up to 21% of powder content
This pilot shows the reuse of biomass ash in blended cement production used in architectural concrete products. Each ring of the structure is produced with less cement and more replacement of SSA and GGBS up to 52%, resulting in significant CO2 reductions in the upper layers, along with an attractive colour-gradient from the ash, as the ash to GGBS ratio also increases, for a total of 21% ash substitution of the total powder content in the top layer.
The Urban Tree is now in permanent exhibition outside the public library in Kolding, Denmark. SSA from Biofos (wastewater treatment plant) used as cement replacement in blended cement at IBF. Design and URBAN TREE concept by CWare.
