Members of the consortium

The AshCycle project brings together 28 research institutes and companies from 8 countries to solve the challenges of ash utilization. The consortium members cover the entire value chain from ash producers to material processors and end users. Close cooperation between universities and companies enables the rapid commercialization of the developed solutions. The network of partners covers a wide geographical area, with organizations from Finland, the Netherlands, Croatia, Belgium, Slovenia, Denmark, Switzerland, and South Africa.

University of Oulu

University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary university with 16,000 students and over 3,000 employees located in the north of Finland. The university has eight faculties, which range from humanities and medicine to business, science and technology. The structure of the University and its wide collaboration network allows it to build multidisciplinary projects, conduct high level research and contribute to solving global challenges in the five focus areas: Creating sustainability through materials and systems; Molecular and environmental basis for lifelong health; Digital solutions in sensing and interactions; Earth and nearspace system and environmental change and Understanding humans in change.


Technical University of Delft

The Delft University of Technology is the oldest and the largest university of technology in The Netherlands. With over 17,500 students and 2,500 scientists (including 200 professors), it is an establishment of both national importance and significant international standing. Renowned for its high standard of education and research, the University collaborates with other educational establishments and research institutes, both in the Netherlands and overseas. It also enjoys partnerships with governments, branch organizations, numerous consultancies, the industry, and companies from the small and medium business sectors.


University of Zagreb Faculty of Civil Engineering

The Faculty of Civil Engineering is one of 33 faculties at the University of Zagreb. It was established in 1919 and today it is the largest civil engineering faculty in Croatia. The Faculty consists of nine divisions (Mathematics Engineering Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials, Structures, Hydraulic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Management and Buildings), which provide teaching, scientific, research and vocational knowledge-based activities.


Ghent University

Ghent University, founded in 1817, is one of the major universities in Belgium with more than 47,000 students and 15,000 employees. The 11 faculties offer more than 200 courses and conduct in-depth research within a wide range of scientific domains. Ghent University is ranked 66th in the Shanghai and 48th in Europe's most innovative universities ranking. 


Zavod za gradbenistvo Slovenije (ZAG)

ZAG (Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute) is a public, non-profit and state owned body. Its main activities include fundamental and applied research, development of new methods of testing and measurement, certification and attestation of conformity of products, training of research and technical staff in particular technical fields, and participation in the preparation of technical codes and standards.


Technical University of Denmark

BioSO4 Oy

BioSO4 Oy commenced commercial activities in 2018 and acts as a distributor of global mining reagent producers. BioSO4 Oy offers a wide range of REACH-registered mining reagents from major international manufacturers. The company's main products are xanthates, Danafloat liquid collectors and grinding media. In addition to products with high product purity, we offer product and usage information related to the use of flotation chemicals, quality monitoring of the products offered, monitoring the environmental impact of product use and a cost-effective door-to-door logistics service. We have been cooperating with our customers from the beginning planned production and with our extensive global network, we are able to help select environmentally friendly and cost-effective chemical solutions for mining projects even before the production begins.

Kiertokaari Oy

Kiertokaari Oy is a publicly owned municipal waste management company providing services for 300 000 residents in Oulu area in Finland. Main location is Rusko waste treatment centre in Oulu. Kiertokaari has 26 employees and operations consist of information services, recycling, recovery and waste treatment. Kiertokaari provides citizens and customers with reliable high-quality municipal waste management services while securing the comfort of the surrounding area and the health of the residents.


AI4Value Oy

Ai4Value Oy is an IT consulting and business management consulting company. It provides artificial intelligence solutions for master data cleaning, intelligent automation, supply chain optimization, and knowledge extraction. Ai4Value's solutions are currently being used in finance, manufacturing, and public service sectors. Ai4Value was founded in 2018 and is located in Helsinki, Finland.


Beton Lučko

BL has developed from a small family business owned by Mr and Mrs Jelenic, which started in the year 1986. Continuous high production standards and the superior quality of the products are crowned with ISO 9001 certification and all technological processes follow strict EU quality standards. Today BL, with production plants all over Croatia, wide variety of concrete products and with a wide distribution network, is the leader in its market segment in Croatia and neighboring countries. BL produces paving stones, noise barriers, prefabricated wall panels and other prefabricated structures for over 60 % of demand in civil engineering structures, in high technological production level, completely automated.


GTF - Initiative for Sustainable Growth

GTF-Initiative for Sustainable Growth (GTF) is a Croatian NGO established in 1999 as a private and nonprofit body. Since then it continues to play the role of a regional institution for shaping policies & practices through public advocacy and actions on issues of entrepreneurship, social inclusion, gender equality, rural development, sustainability and circular economy in South East Europe. GTF's strategic goals are promotion of sustainable development, empowering employment of marginalized groups in society (women, Roma, disabled, NEET youth) and Improvement of multi-stakeholder cooperation in order to address key issues such as social exclusion, ecological problems and poverty.


DOK-ING

DOK-ING the company, headquartered in Croatia, is a leader in heavy-duty robotics and autonomous systems. The company is an international market leader and has a market share of over 80 % in more than 40 countries worldwide. In its more than 30 years of existence, the company has changed the industrial landscape with its innovations - robotic systems for mine clearance, emergencies and mining. In recent years, DOK-ING has taken on the challenge of transforming conventional waste management and energy generation with an innovative gasification system that converts organic material into clean energy and by-products that can be used in the construction industry.


ResourceFull

ResourceFull, with offices located in Houthalen, is an expert in the valorization of metallurgical and mining by-products in building applications. ResourceFull finds use of these by-products by transforming them into minerals suitable for the production of the next generation of concrete. ResourceFull offers a cement alternative based on the use of secondary resources, eliminating the dependency of primary raw materials and offering a far more ecological alternative to the construction industry. ResourceFull aids in fostering eco-innovation by establishing mutually profitable transactions. ResourceFull is working hard to bring together in collaboration traditionally separate industries, aiming to utilize each other's waste products, knowledge and technologies.

Orbix Solutions

Orbix is a medium-sized Belgian company, founded in 1996 and almost exclusively active in the circular economy. Orbix has transformed the need to landfill stainless steel slag into a zero waste management with maximum recovery of the stainless steel from the slag and reuse of the remaining mineral fraction. Orbix currently valorizes approximately 450,000 tons of stainless steel slag per year in Belgium. The facilities can process up to 600,000 tons of slags (stainless steel, carbon steel, etc.). Zero waste management is only possible if the residual products are valorized. Therefore, the R&D department of Orbix focuses not only on the development of new and improved applications of the slag, but also on innovative production processes (chemical and mineralogical stabilization of the slag, metal recovery and grinding techniques, carbonation technology, etc.). New innovative valorization routes are continuously explored with attention to product quality and environmental impact.

Veolia NV-SA is a NV based in Belgium. Currently the Belux organisation has 2 317 in-house employees. We have regional exploitation locations in each province to meet clients needs. Veolia NV-SA is a 100 % daughter company of Veolia Environnement Int. (Veolia group) , with its registered office in Paris and worldwide activities in 48 countries.


CWare

CWare is a research and consultancy organisation with expertise within circular economic modelling, resource efficiency, environmental policies, economic feasibility, sustainable business models, market exploitation strategies, co-creation processes in projects and initiatives supporting the transition to a circular and sustainable economy. CWare's activities within EU research projects has led to a start-up activity: URBAN TREE, providing cities and citizens with sustainable solutions to greening urban spaces.


NEXE ltd.

Nexe has 40 years of experience in the cement production. From 1980 until today, a number of investments have been made, followed by years of technological improvement and modernization of the factory, which today is the second largest cement producer in the Republic of Croatia with an annual capacity of 1.1 million tons of cement. Concern for the environmental impact and the impact on air quality are among the most important determinants of Nexe's business. 


Sustainable Living

Sustainable Living is a company of Thomas Lynnerup, an inventor, developer and consultant in sustainable building for the last 20 years. Among other things, Sustainable Living has worked with clay plaster, floors and bricks; rammed earth; earth bag building; COB; strengthening and waterproofing the products in different ways; and clay product as thermal mass.

IBF, which is one of the leading manufacturers of concrete products in Denmark and is family owned, have since 1960 worked with production, development and sales of paving stones, tiles, roof tiles, drainage, concrete readymix and customised solutions.


Mineralz B.V.

Mineralz is active in cleaning contaminated soil and recycling mineral residual flows into secondary raw materials. In thirty years' time, with 10 locations in the Netherlands and Belgium, we have grown into a leading company in the cleaning and immobilization of contaminated soil and mineral residual flows, striving for optimal reuse. 


Haitsma Beton B.V.

Haitsma Beton B.V. is an active player in the precast concrete market. Our insistence on innovation has contributed substantially to our identity: it has always been and continues to be, our aim to lead in the field of development. We never stop developing new and better products and processes, in order to accommodate changing market needs, to comply with new legislation and regulations and to take advantage of new technological insights. Danske Tegl

DANSKE TEGL is the Danish Brick and Roof Tiles Association. We represent Danish producers of bricks, roof tiles, aerated concrete, and mortar. It is a non-profit organisation. The goal of the organisation is to ensure a wide and updated knowledge about masonry, technical aspects of mortar etc. As a member of the European ceramic association, Cerame Unie, DANSKE TEGL is involved in both national and international work on standards, circular economy, Green Deal, sustainable construction and so on.


ARC I/S Amager Resourcecenter

ARC is a Danish waste handling company owned by five municipalities in the capital region. Our 375 employees operate recycling stations, waste collection, state-of-the-art waste to energy plant in Copenhagen. At ARC, we take care of everything related to waste and aim to climate neutral waste handling. ARC supports the circular economy by lifting waste up the waste hierarchy to the highest possible level of reuse and recycling, so that products and materials are kept in circulation for as long as possible. ARC ensures waste that cannot be reused or recycled is utilized to produce energy as optimal as possible in terms of the environment and climate. For waste that cannot be utilized, ARC ensures environmentally safe landfilling or special treatment. ARC collects waste from citizens and companies with respect for the local environment and climate.


ETH Zürich

ETH Zurich, Switzerland, is one of the leading international universities for technology and natural sciences. ETH Zurich has more than 18 500 students from over 110 countries, including 4 000 doctoral students. ETH Zurich regularly appears at the top of international rankings as one of the best universities in the world. The Chair of Sustainable Construction led by Guillaume Habert intends to ground sustainability in all disciplines involved in the built environment and to promote appropriate application of construction materials during the entire life cycle of buildings and infrastructure. The group has developed an expertise in environmental impact assessment of cement, concrete and their alternatives as well as the analysis of material, energy and money flows inside a territory.
