AshCycle pilots in Denmark
Transforming ash into opportunity: advancing circular construction for a sustainable Europe

Paving blocks containing sewage sludge ashes for regular sidewalk or patio
Pilot product: Pedestrian path with SCM-based paving blocks
Location: DTU
Technology: GGBS blended cement, fine aggregates partially replaced
Ash type: Sewage sludge ashes (SSA)
Ash replacement level: 10% of sand fraction
This pilot shows the reuse of biomass ash as a replacement of the fine aggregates in concrete for paving blocks. As the ash was found to have little reactivity, it was instead attempted to replace virgin raw materials. The sand replacement was problem free, and produced pavers exceed requirements on all tested parameters. The ash contributes a pleasant, warm hue to the concrete.
SSA from Biofos (Waste water treatment plant) used as sand replacement in blended cement at IBF. Installation place TBD (Originally DTU).
